Why am I Different

What distinguishes hand-painted yarn artists from commercial dyers? If you've ever wondered why hand-painted yarn captivates you, because hand painters have the freedom to explore artistic expressions through a variety of colors, blends, shades, and combinations using various techniques. At Red Barn Yarn, I've crafted a collection of around 100 consistent colors, along with unique “one of a” skeins available in the Studio. Below are some images showcasing what you might find in the Uniquities Collection or when reach out for something special.

I have a specific approach to wool and enjoy experimenting with different color blends in each painting session. This experimentation results in the delightful skeins found in the Uniquities Collection. If a particular blend proves exceptional, I may add it to my available colorways, as I did with the stunning “Liquid Amber” colorway, reminiscent of the Sugar Maples in Ohio, known here in California as Liquid Amber trees.

With a background in color theory and composition from college, along with postgraduate training in drawing and oil painting, I also ran Stretch & Sew store in Kansas City, teaching many individuals the art of selecting fabrics and mastering garment construction techniques. This foundation is essential for creating beautifulways and designing knitwear.
